We May Have Something Here….. by Ken Pierce: 2.26.2015

February 28, 2015

This was another solid month for us as a band. We played what I would say were the two best gigs for us so far, the Loft in Columbus and the legendary 40 Watt Club in Athens.   The new approach of Seth, Cal, and I working separately from the Laughlins worked as it was intended. […]

Some Good Advice On The Heels of a Great Weekend: 1.26.2015 by Ken Pierce

February 25, 2015

I have to tell you that as I am writing this…..I am watching The Bachelor on ABC. If you wonder why I watch this show, just ask and I will give you my standard answer to that question. Sometimes I may sound preachy in these reflections, but I don’t intend to be. I don’t enjoy […]

We Have an Ego and A Little News: 1.10.2015 by Ken Pierce

February 25, 2015

I was asked the other day by a friend if I knew any bass players. He is putting together his own group and wanted to know if I knew someone that could play bass for him. He texted me and asked if I knew any bass players and I almost said “Yes, I know one […]

Meet the Band

Seth Brown

Seth is from Madison County and has been playing the bass for about 20 years and played in many bands growing up as well as in college where he attended the University of Georgia.  Seth spends his week teaching middle school language arts and social studies, but he spends his weekends slappin’ on the bass guitar behind Laughlin.  His music listening is vast, from Tool to Jethro Tull.  Seth also plays many different instruments which include mandolin, acoustic guitar, and violin. He currently lives in Monroe, GA  and just recently married his lovely and beautiful wife Lauren Brown.

Ken Pierce

Ken grew up in Monroe GA where he still lives and has been playing drums for a little over 15 years.  The Laughlins knew they loved Ken’s playing style from the start. He was the first drummer that they had come across that wasn’t concerned with playing the drums as fast and as loud as possible.  For the first year, Ken provided a pulse for the Laughlin’s without a lead guitar or bass player.  This configuration allowed for Ken to perfect his approach to hand percussion such as the cajon or djembe which provided a much more acoustic feel to the sound. Ken draws influence from various styles of music, even reaching into jazz and the music of Ireland and India.

Cal Braski

Cal was born in Murfreesboro, TN and raised in Columbus, GA.  Cal and Zach went to the same high school and played baseball together in Columbus.   Cal picked up the guitar in middle school and managed to grasp the instrument very quickly.  He is a talented and mature musician on both the piano and guitar and he provides all of the the lead guitar work for the band.   Cal has written very intricate guitar lines for some original songs which have not been profressionally recorded yet.  Cal has quickly become a noticeable lead guitar player around the state, and he is must-see on stage.  Come catch a Laughlin show to see it!

Note: For those of you who are Saturday Night Live fans, Cal’s uncle is the REAL Bill Braski! Really folks, his uncle went to college with one of the SNL writers and he actually is a salesman!
